Genito-Urinary Oncology Clinic
Unfortunately the genito-urinary system is prone to cancer formation. Common cancers of the genito-urinary system include prostate cancer, bladder cancer, kidney cancer, testicular cancer, and penile cancer. We offer a complete range of investigations to analyse these problems, including the latest screening, and imaging techniques.
Many of the best outcomes in cancer treatment involve multi-disciplinary approaches incorporating the expertise of other healthcare professionals including surgeons, medical oncologists and radiation oncologists. This group approach, as well as the latest technologies and treatments are employed in our practice to achieve the best outcomes.
Haematuria clinic
Blood in the urine is a very common urological problem. It can range from microscopic amounts to grossly visible amounts. There is a very large number of reasons why people have blood in their urine. Thankfully most are not sinister, but it is extremely important that it is investigated. Urological societies worldwide have studied this problem and have come up with a schedule of investigations to fully assess this problem thoroughly.
The process starts with a clinic consultation, urine and blood tests, as well as imaging, and ends with a telescopic examination of the bladder.
Prostate Clinics
Prostate issues are common. The prostate gland is a necessary part of the genitor-urinary system. It is required for reproduction. However it is prone to three common disorders, namely inflammation, benign enlargement and unfortunately prostate cancer.
We run a specialized clinic for prostate problems. For benign prostate problems we offer a very comprehensive range of investigations including urine testing, blood tests, and PSA testing as well as ultrasound, voiding flow rate, and urodynamics. The range of treatments is also very comprehensive from medication to minimally invasive treatment such as transurethral needle ablation, to endoscopic treatment such as transurethral resection of the prostate gland, and to the very new greenlight laser vaporization of the prostate gland. The last resort is an open operation, which is rarely required today but is also available.
For prostate cancer, we offer screening, and a complete and thorough investigation including the most up to date imaging techniques, blood tests and biopsy.
All treatments are available including watchful waiting, expectant management, brachytherapy, radiotherapy and surgery including robotic and open.
For inflammation the full range of investigations is offered, including urine and blood testing, imaging, and urodynamics. Treatment for this condition is individualized to the patient in order to achieve the best result. This often results in a multidisciplinary approach using pain specialists, physiotherapists and psychologists.
Women’s Health Clinic
One in three women will experience urinary incontinence at some stage in their life. Thirty percent of women with pelvic organ prolapse have urinary incontinence. Thirty percent of women with pelvic organ prolapse have faecal incontinence. Most of these problems are pregnancy related and part of the same issue. It is important to treat them as the one problem. Thankfully there are many options to repair the problem. A lot of women are unaware of this and just put up with these embarrassing issues. We offer a one-stop multi-disciplinary clinic to thoroughly assess the pelvic floor and guide treatment accordingly.
The process starts with a consultation with Dr Campbell whereupon a physical examination might be undertaken. Investigations may be ordered such as a urine test, and ultrasound imaging. Ancillary investigations, such as a telescopic inspection of the bladder, a voiding flow rate, or a video-urodynamics test might be ordered.
Once the assessment has been completed, a consultation regarding the problem, and its treatment options will occur, usually as the same time as a urodynamic test.
Often pelvic floor exercises with a physiotherapist is the initial step in the road to recovery. Most people achieve some improvement with physiotherapy if not cure. However if the results are not satisfactory then we may need to move on to surgical intervention.
This practice has a very comprehensive range of procedures to offer to correct incontinence ranging from endoscopic botox injections into the bladder to the minimally invasive synthetic suburethral slings, to the more invasive biological slings and the Burch colposuspension. Finally the last resort is an artificial urinary sphincter or a urinary diversion.
For prolapse we are able to offer a range of repairs including either vaginal or abdominal approaches. These repairs can be performed as minimally invasive procedures or as open procedures. They can be performed using synthetic mesh materials or with biological material. We specialize using biological grafts that reduce the risk of complications that can occur with synthetic products.
If faecal incontinence is present, it will be addressed, by a colo-rectal surgeon with an interest and expertise in this area.
Erectile Difficulty Clinic
Erectile difficulty affects a significant number of men. It can be due to the aging process, to hormonal imbalances, high dietary fats, diabetes, medications, or as a consequence of peyronie’s disease. Unfortunately it is also a side-effect of surgery for prostate cancer.
Unfortunately the processes are not always reversible and the treatment must be directed at the symptom as well as the cause. However once the cause is known the treatment can be best directed.
This clinic offers consultation, assessment, investigation, education, and treatment if desired. Our clinic nurse will engage you with education and demonstrate the treatment techniques.
Generally the treatment starts with correction of the underlying problem. Medication is the next option. If medication fails then injection therapy or the vacuum device would be considered the next. Thereafter a discussion of the surgical options, including venous corrective surgery or a penile implant would be discussed.
Stone Clinic
The urinary system is prone to stone formation. This can be a very painful urological condition. It can necessitate an emergency admission to hospital. This problem is also very common in Australia due to our climate.
This clinic offers an initial assessment, blood and urine testing as well as imaging. Once the initial assessment has been made and all the relevant information gathered, a treatment protocol will be organized. This will only occur after a full discussion of all the options.
Treatment options always include no intervention, surveillance, medical treatment, minimally invasive treatment or open surgery. Once the stones are cleared, options will be discussed to prevent stone recurrence.
