Greenlight Laser Prostatectomy
As men get older, the central portion of the prostate gland enlarges. This is a non-cancerous enlargement. This enlargement can cause difficulty urinating. The gold standard treatment for this condition is a Transurethral Resection of the Prostate Gland or TURP. The Greenlight Laser Prostatectomy is a relatively new treatment that has similar results. However it has certain advantages to a standard TURP in that it only requires an overnight stay in hospital as opposed to a 3–5 day stay in hospital.
The procedure is more comfortable as there is less time spent with a catheter in place. There is very little bleeding and it can be performed on men who are currently taking blood thinning medication at the time of the procedure. Our practice is currently the only practice in Brisbane that can offer this treatment.
